Cut the filler recruiters skim past

The ones that could be said by anyone applying to anything. “Results-driven professional”, “team player”, “hard-working”, “detail-oriented self-starter”, “passionate about”, “synergy”. The problem is not that they sound dated, it is that they are unfalsifiable: nobody has ever described themselves as careless and unmotivated, so the claim carries no information and a recruiter’s eye slides straight over it. Each one also occupies space a specific, checkable fact could have used. The fix is not a fancier synonym; it is replacing the claim with the evidence that would have justified it.

Not with the software — with the person. An applicant tracking system stores and indexes text; it has no opinion about “dynamic self-starter” and will not down-rank you for it. The cost is entirely human: a recruiter spends five to twenty seconds on a resume, and every line of stock phrasing is a line that told them nothing while their attention was still available. Worse, filler at the top of the page occupies the most valuable space on the document with the least valuable content.
